Regulations of the Academic Journal Academic Review of Business and Economics (ARBE)
GENERAL PROVISIONS
§ 1
- The journal Academic Review of Business and Economics, hereinafter referred to as “ARBE,” is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by University of Economics in Katowice.
- ARBE is primarily addressed to students and early-career researchers.
- ARBE publishes scholarly articles that are original and have not been previously published. The journal primarily accepts research articles, review articles, and case studies. Other types of contributions may be accepted upon approval of the Editor-in-Chief and after consultation with the Editorial Board.
- The aim of ARBE is to disseminate research findings in the disciplines of economics and finance as well as management and quality sciences. Interdisciplinary articles are also welcome.
- The primary and only version of ARBE is the electronic (online) version. Publications are made available on the journal’s website and in the Silesian Digital Library repository.
- All ARBE content is published in open access under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/deed.pl
- ARBE is an annual journal operating under a continuous publication model. One issue is published per year, with ongoing submission of manuscripts.
- The languages of publication are Polish and English.
- No publication fees are charged for articles published in ARBE.
PRINCIPLES OF JOURNAL ORGANIZATION
§ 2
- The governing bodies of ARBE are the Editorial Board and the Scientific Council.
- The Editorial Board consists of:
- the Editor-in-Chief;
- the Deputy Editor-in-Chief;
- the Managing Editor;
- the Statistical Editor;
- Subject Editors.
- The Scientific Council is composed of academic staff from national and international research institutions.
§ 3
- The Editor-in-Chief is appointed by the Rector. Upon the motion of the Editor-in-Chief, the Rector approves the remaining members of ARBE’s governing bodies. The composition of the Editorial Board is published on the journal’s website and in each issue of ARBE.
- The Editor-in-Chief is responsible in particular for:
- managing the work of the Editorial Board, including convening its meetings;
- overseeing the editorial process, including approving and appointing reviewers;
- making final decisions regarding the acceptance of articles for publication and approving individual issues of ARBE;
- taking appropriate actions in cases of suspected scientific misconduct;
- representing ARBE and the Editorial Board.
- The Deputy Editor-in-Chief performs tasks delegated by the Editor-in-Chief.
- The Managing Editor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Editorial Board, including in particular:
- handling ongoing correspondence related to ARBE, especially with authors;
- sending manuscripts to selected reviewers and maintaining communication with them;
- forwarding submitted manuscripts to the Editor-in-Chief and subject editors;
- maintaining contact with the Publishing House of the University of Economics in Katowice (hereinafter referred to as the “Publishing House”), including submitting accepted articles;
- monitoring the manuscript submission system and reporting any irregularities to the Editor-in-Chief;
- collecting, organizing, and archiving documentation related to ARBE;
- maintaining the journal’s website, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of published information;
- promoting ARBE within the academic community.
§ 4
- The Editorial Board supervises the academic quality of the journal and the preparation of materials for publication.
- Its responsibilities include in particular:
- ensuring a high academic standard of ARBE;
- implementing subsequent stages of the editorial process;
- selecting appropriate reviewers and submitting reviewer proposals for approval by the Editor-in-Chief;
- ensuring confidentiality of the peer-review process;
- monitoring the editorial workflow;
- maintaining communication with authors, reviewers, the Scientific Council, and the Publishing House;
- establishing cooperation with other academic institutions.
- Editorial Board meetings are held at least twice a year and are convened by the Editor-in-Chief. Members of the Scientific Council may participate. Meetings may be held onsite or online.
§ 5
The responsibilities of the Scientific Council include in particular:
- supervising the implementation of ARBE’s strategic activities;
- supporting these activities in cooperation with the Editorial Board;
- ensuring a high academic standard of the journal;
- promoting publication in ARBE.
EDITORIAL POLICY, INFORMATION POLICY AND PUBLICATION ETHICS
§ 6
- The publication of articles in ARBE respects copyright, academic integrity, and all ethical standards.
- In cases of justified suspicion of scientific misconduct, the Editorial Board follows procedures recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and documents the course of proceedings.
- To prevent practices such as ghostwriting, guest authorship, and honorary authorship, authors are required to provide full and accurate statements regarding contributions and sources of funding. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of this information. All detected cases of misconduct will be documented and disclosed, including notification of relevant institutions.
- The peer-review procedure adopted by ARBE complies with the guidelines set out in the publication Good Practices in Reviewing Procedures in Science (Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Warsaw 2011).
- Reviewers are selected individually for each manuscript and appointed by the Editor-in-Chief.
- ARBE applies a double-blind peer review process and appoints at least two independent reviewers.
- Reviewers are recognized experts with appropriate competence and experience, including international reviewers.
- Review invitations include a deadline. By accepting the invitation, the reviewer commits to completing the review within the specified timeframe.
- All personal data provided for the editorial process are used solely for that purpose and will not be disclosed for other purposes. The data controller is the University of Economics in Katowice, ul. 1 Maja 50, 40-287 Katowice, Poland. Contact with the Data Protection Officer: iod@ue.katowice.pl. Authors have the right to access, rectify, restrict processing, or request deletion of their personal data, subject to applicable law. Data are processed under Article 6(1)(b) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and in accordance with the University’s privacy policy.
EDITORIAL PROCEDURE
§ 7
- Authors submit manuscripts prepared in accordance with the provided template (MS Word format) and editorial requirements via the journal’s submission system.
- Each submission undergoes an initial assessment of scope, editorial compliance, and academic quality. Non-compliant manuscripts are returned for revision or rejected.
- Submissions are then checked using plagiarism detection software.
- The Editorial Board decides whether to proceed to peer review.
- The Editorial Board proposes two independent reviewers. The Editor-in-Chief approves and appoints the reviewers.
- The manuscript is then sent to reviewers, who prepare evaluations using a standardized review form and provide one of the following recommendations:
- accept as is;
- accept with minor revisions;
- accept with major revisions subject to re-evaluation;
- reject.
- Reviews are submitted electronically.
- Acceptance requires two positive reviews.
- In case of substantially conflicting reviews, a third reviewer is appointed, whose decision is final.
- Reviews and any comments from the Editor-in-Chief are sent to the author. If revisions are required, the author has 14 days to submit a revised version.
- The Editorial Board evaluates the revised manuscript and decides on acceptance, further revision, or rejection. In case of a tie, the Editor-in-Chief has the casting vote.
- Accepted manuscripts are forwarded to the Publishing House for copyediting and typesetting.
- Authors review and approve the final version.
- The article is then published in the journal’s electronic system.
FINAL PROVISIONS
§ 8
- By submitting a manuscript, the author retains economic and moral copyright and grants the University of Economics in Katowice a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, and make the article publicly available in electronic form, including in databases, indexing services, and repositories. The license also includes necessary editorial and technical modifications that do not alter the substantive content or violate the author’s moral rights.
- By submitting a manuscript, the author declares that the data presented are accurate.
- By submitting a manuscript, the author declares that if the article includes non-public information enabling identification of a company or individual, appropriate consent has been obtained.
- Withdrawal of an article after acceptance is considered a violation of these regulations.
- Appeals against decisions of the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board are reviewed by the Vice-Rector responsible for research.
- Submission of a manuscript constitutes acceptance of these regulations.
- These regulations enter into force upon approval by the Rector of the University of Economics in Katowice.
